Aside from investing in a scraper you'll also want some anti-freeze for your radiator and screenwash bottle. If you don't like the idea of aerosol cans of de-icer I believe you can make some up using an old pump action bottle and some de-icer liquid/anti-freeze for screenwash (usually the liquid is ethelyne glycol).
Or just run your engine whilst the internal/screen heaters defrost things, it menas you get to sit in a box of cold that's slowly warming but ...
Mind you I walk to work so I'm glad to be away from the damp chill of Oxford
