It's not a pop-up; it hijacks the open window in a very annoying way (shrinking it down to dialogue-box size and stealing away the tabs, toolbars and even the window tools). However, adblock does seem to have dealt with it adequately, so that should be OK.
Separately: I have a free-no-ads account, but that doesn't completely solve the problem; if you're looking at the journal page for someone with a 'plus' ad-based account (rather than reading stuff on your flist) then you can still get hit with the nasty stuff. OTOH, having killed Ffox without touching the window after it was hijacked, it doesn't appear to have done any harm.
