I did a quick head count in the one calm moment when everyone was sitting for the play, and there were fully 60 people in the Bayne room! Suddenly, the plan to perform our reduced LOTR for a second time at short notice seemed perhaps unwise. More than one thespian looked a little pale...but, bless them, the people seemed to have fun. Our first rehearsal with the full cast that afternoon had been a little worrying, as our cues were long forgetten, and our pace sodden. However when we heard the first giggles, then roars, from the audience, there was a lot of grinning backstage. We had to pause for laughter to settle before delivering our lines! Most enthusiastic they seemed.

All in all, quite a success. Extra special hugs and thanks to cuiaalfheim, who journeyed far to reprise her stellar performance as Gandalf/Galadriel/The MC, and to freya_9, who did the lighting, and didn't complain once through two very chaotic rehearsals. Stars, both.

You were indeed all brilliant. I always think that freshers' meetings need a focus, and every time I'm persuaded otherwise the meetings always transpire in a fashion that proves my original point. The Reduced LOTR worked superbly.

It seemed the right length, didn't it? You don't want to make the whole evening passive, but it is good to give people a common focus. Also, I like to think the mix of irreverence combined with some esoteric Tolkien references was probably a reasonable summary presentation of the society's tone.

It was excellent - even better than version 1 last year! I liked the Reduced Shakespeare Company thing of pulling a random member from the audience (or was he a plant)?

It also ties in well with Dramatic Readings next week.

Not a plant! In fact, since I was 'backstage' I have no idea what Robbie looks like!
I very much hope that, having been foolish in front of a lot of people, this will encourage others to join in at the readings!
