Well that was a good night!

The banquet did, in the end, come off. I had a few panicky moments of wondering whether it would - like when I didn't get to start my cooking until after 7 on Friday, and when stuck in traffic at 1:15 on a mission to get knives, because there were none in the kitchen - but it did and was good.

A few highlights for me
- Cooking at midnight with [livejournal.com profile] louisekdyson  keeping me company
- The glorious sight of our golden nibbles on golden plates - candied orange, cinder toffee, nut clusters, spicy nuts, cheesy rings - all deliciousness and pleasingly golden to look at
- The many awesome Balrog costumes
- Being complimented first on my 'spicy nuts' and then on my 'silver balls'. I am, like, 9 years old.
- The moment we plated the final pie (number 122, we think), having served 122 pies of 7 different sorts to 61 different people in 15 minutes. There was a group high 5!
- The room with a floor covered with desserts
[livejournal.com profile] proskynesis , [livejournal.com profile] teh_elb , [livejournal.com profile] loneraven  and [livejournal.com profile] exactlyhalf  singing 'Moo-ooooo-ria'
- During the clean up, with M and A looking for the top to one of their tupperware containers. This led to [livejournal.com profile] cealdis and I almost simultaneously bursting out into 'Where is the lid", and this led to a kitchen-wide rendition of the greatest hits of Fry&Laurie, including 'America' and 'Kicking Ass'. I love that we have friends who can do this
- Throwing flying discs of pastry at M, who caught them with his mouth
- Hearing there might be TWO more mini-taruithites at next year's event. We're going to need, like, a children's chapter!
- After finally working out how to make the automatic doors close in order to lock them, [livejournal.com profile] shanith  and [livejournal.com profile] exactlyhalf  and I walked through turning out lights and closed the final door. Then we saw a kitchen window had been left open. It was high, long and maybe 10 inches high. [livejournal.com profile] exactlyhalf  declared that if he couldn't climb through it, it probably wasn't an issue. He then proceeded to do a contortionist act, climb through it and into the kitchen sink, closing the window and locking up.

Ooh gossip! :) Any more info?

well you know about one, and the other you should have been able to spot if your eyes were sharp enough!

I'm a new parent, so I'm knackered all the time, I've spent far far too much time sorting out Doomâ„¢ via email and the room was half-lit most of the time anyway :(

Now how many couples were present, who don't already have kids ...

Sleep deprived and lurgied up. Yuck.
Your mistake is assuming it's someone without little ones. Tom and jamie should have a new sibling by august.

I was wondering if they might be the couple, but I was too busy thinking that maybe all the Russians were now thinking about children

That was our thought, too.

Oh and herself would like me to point out that she guessed correctly straight off. And no she isn't gloating ... no really ;-)

Hee, I spotted it too ;-) But then for both Na'Lon and I it might come under the heading of 'takes one to know one'...

It helps that she's so slender. But yes, I was sure enough that I risked the tactless question!

Well I didn't spot it ...

Yay for wonderful banquet ;-) Was very impressed with you pie-organization (and indeed the pies!)

As for highlight 6, at one point [livejournal.com profile] prince_eldarion urged me to come and see what he had found, and led me to that room: "Look at all those puddings on the floor!" I'm just glad he was very good and didn't touch anything, and accepted it when I shut the door and said it was important to stay away from them.

Oh that is WONDERFUL. It would almost have been worth it to see the carnage a small person could have wreaked in there, but for the sake of shanith's hard work, I'm glad he was so good.

And I would have hated to see the carnage that [livejournal.com profile] shanith could have wreaked on [livejournal.com profile] prince_eldarion!
