So I've been enjoying Law&Order UK quite inordinately. They've imported the formula quite directly from the US version, (crime, police and their 'guv'nor' find someone to charge, lawyer types try and get a conviction). They've picked cases that seem willing to at least look at some of the more uncomfortable aspects of UK society (including the economically motivated harassment of social housing tenants, the failure of police to solve a case because the investigating officer was fixated on proving 'the gay' did it).

And there is Harriet Walter. Sigh. She really is quite awesome as the brusque DI Natalie Chandler. (The objective one to her overly emotional coppers). I do so like the meta-full circle, from her playing Harriet Vane mystery writer behind bars to playing the lead baddy-finder. I basically started watching the program because she'd be in at least 3 minutes of the footage. But Also! There is Freema Agyeman as the junior crown prosecutor. She's awesome too, methinks.

Happily, there is more Lewis-love. These episodes could stand to branch out a little further from the Turl, but have the same wonderful sun-soaked, we-had-to-shoot-this-in-summer-damn-what-a-pity look, and the brilliantly uncomfortable relationship between Lewis and Hathaway.

But, but..
Does it make me terribly shallow that I was gutted to find out that Lawrence Fox (who plays Hathaway) is married to Billie Piper???

Your thoughts on L&O: UK? They are very much mine too! I'm really enjoying the show as a whole (though occasionally I'll be bored by the legal section) and I very much like Harriet-as-Natalie. I like how she's more 'one of the boys' type of boss rather than a stiff-backed authority figure and the way that her being a mother is not made into a big thing.

Indeed! She can do her job and be a mum and it NOT be the major focus of her character!
I like how she is so much tougher than them :)

Last Sunday's show (Lewis) I was lucky enough to have seen two of the scenes while they were filming :) - in the cafe on Broad street, and rescuing the girl from reporters outside Balliol main gates (and Lewis was briefly parked in a disabled spot!

I agree with Vampirekitten: that really is poor taste on Hathaway's part :(
