Chronicle of a much nicer day
May. 10th, 2009 11:41 pmToday was the last day of exactlyhalf's parents' visit. We woke to blue skies and wandered into town.
Maybe it's just that I don't get out before midday on the weekends, but High St was surprisingly uncrowded. We hardly had to queue at all for our punt and before the Magdalen tower bells had chimed 12 we were gliding upstream. We came across a number of people in some sort of semi-Edwardian costume, some squealing novices, a grandmother being punted by her grandson, and many many ducklings. (oh the soft and yellow cuteness). There was elderflower cordial (being slightly too early for pimm's), raspberries, bread and cheese. Exactlyhalf put on a very elegant bridgehopping display, and in 2 hours we covered just over 4km. Not exactly an Islip trip, but a satisfying expedition.
We capped the trip out with a drink at the Turf in the continuing benign sunshine. We strolled home for books and films (watching Glittering Prizes, a not-particularly-glowing look at life in the city of Perspiring Dreams in the 50s). There was risotto with fresh asparagus (from the Manor Farm in Binsey 'still crying for its mother') and pear cider. There were cards and farewells and now to bed.
