Is anyone else getting nasty ads from LJ that take over your browser pretending to 'look for malware'? I've had to force quit the program twice today and it's seriously irritating.

ETA: from other data points, it seems this is the effect of me subcoming to the ads account (so I could have more than 6 icons!) without coughing up for a paid account. My sincere apologies to anyone whose browser is being suspended in animation by these evil ads!

Not me. But then I have a paid account, so that may make a difference.

Yes, although I've only seen them on your journal so far! (And you're not the only person I know with an ad-displaying account...)

Assuming that you're using a sensible browser (that is, not MSIE), you should be able to block them; they claim to come from malware-scan.com. I haven't seen one since adding *.malware-scan.com/* to my adblock filter list, but that might just be a happy coincidence of timing - I'll let you know if one does get through.

Me neither, and I also have a paid account. Would it be worth changing the settings to block popups, or is it not a popup that is causing the problems?

Have you got adblock plus installed? If not, get it! Bye bye ads.

No, but I have the basic free account that doesn't come with any ads.

I have a plus account but this hasn't happened to me yet. I have Adblock Plus and the Firefox add-on NoScript installed, which between them take care of quite a bit.
